What do YOU use to hide the unsightly mess of cables?

Sat Aug 23, 2003 4:09 pm

I bought a bunch of splitloom, and it helped quite a bit, but it's still not as clean as I'd like.

I hate the damned IDE cables, even rounded ones.

Sigh.

Also, the multiple cables from my heatsink fan (Volcano11), one to the back of the case, one to the motherboard, one to the powersupply. Messy messy.
So how fast is your car, anyway?

Oh, about 1200mhz.

Small, long cables, like the audio cable to a CD drive, can often be tucked in behind the motherboard which helps to keep them out of the line of sight.

Out of sight, out of mind, eh? :D

Too bad it still affects the airflow in your case :/

And who cares? As long as everything works, I know I'm happy.

Hmm, well, I try to route any unsightly cables to the right side of my case, the side without the window, it helps a little bit, but I really need some rounded IDE cables.

*sigh*

I helped my friend put together a new compy with nice shiny built in SATA and a 120 GB Maxtor SATA hd. It's amazing how the lack of just one ugly and space hogging IDE cable can make a case look way cleaner.

Split loom has got to be my favorite method so far, I just ordered another 6 feet of 1/4" black tubing.

I hear fan controllers make a ton of mess, so I'm trying to plan out how I'm gonna route everything.

well, I don't use anything, I just route things to the back of my case (behind the 3.5" cage where floppy goes)

I don't use round cables, take up too much space, I just lay the flat ones against the back of the case, it looks clean

as for fans, I have no clue how to do it cleanly

Fans are the things that botch me up too. I did a pretty decent job with the IDE and other manditory cables, but those fans all over the place are just too difficult to manage. I'm sure that there is a way to minimize the impact, but I'm not feeling very creative.

Behind the drive cages is one of the best places to stash cables. Also you can run many cables behind the mobo, as that is a good place to stash flat IDE cables. As for fan wire, I bought some wire clips and put them on the side of my case and ran all the wires through it to the top. Kept them out of sight of the window, and made the case look extremely clean.

I bought these Belkin velcro cable ties at Walmart. I used them along with good layout planning to get it tidy in there.
