I am running two 40GB IBM 60GXP drives in a striped array on the built-in Promise FastTrak Lite RAID controller on the Soyo K7V Dragon+. When I first got the motherboard (in November), I installed WinME and ran SiSoft Sandra 2001. The drive benchmark result for the array was consistently something over 43000, compared to Sandra's fastest reference RAID with two 40GB 7200rpm U100 drives at 36000. The single drive reference is at 24000. I was quite pleased with my result.
Once the WinXP drivers and BIOS update came out in early December, I installed WinXP, but I have not benchmarked the system or the RAID since then. It seems fast enough.
It seemed to me that I had more PCI performance issues with the ASUS A7M266 (VIA 686B southbridge with AMD 761 northbridge). With that MB, I had SoundBlaster Live!, Intel NIC, and Adaptec SCSI PCI cards competing with the on-board controllers for the single PCI bus. At least with the KT266A chipset the V-link connection from the northbridge to the southbridge isn't getting saturated.
