For UT, I had a poopload of problems running it if my desktop resolution was 32-bit.

When I changed the desktop resolution to 16-bit, the game played great in 16 or 32 bit color.

Using Geforce 3 ti200 on an Abit KT7 btw.

I wish that was the problem, but I always set my desktop to 16 bit color...

I am running two 40GB IBM 60GXP drives in a striped array on the built-in Promise FastTrak Lite RAID controller on the Soyo K7V Dragon+. When I first got the motherboard (in November), I installed WinME and ran SiSoft Sandra 2001. The drive benchmark result for the array was consistently something over 43000, compared to Sandra's fastest reference RAID with two 40GB 7200rpm U100 drives at 36000. The single drive reference is at 24000. I was quite pleased with my result.

Once the WinXP drivers and BIOS update came out in early December, I installed WinXP, but I have not benchmarked the system or the RAID since then. It seems fast enough.

It seemed to me that I had more PCI performance issues with the ASUS A7M266 (VIA 686B southbridge with AMD 761 northbridge). With that MB, I had SoundBlaster Live!, Intel NIC, and Adaptec SCSI PCI cards competing with the on-board controllers for the single PCI bus. At least with the KT266A chipset the V-link connection from the northbridge to the southbridge isn't getting saturated.

Yeah, everyone loves to gripe about VIA, but I find my board to be problem free. Of course, I bought my board with with no plans to use more then 1 or 2 PCI slots. I've heard that using more then that can cause problems on the Dragon Plus. Glad I did my homework first...

Hey everyone,
I just purchased the Soyo Dragon Plus and I plan on doing heavy video editing on this machine. I thought that this board might fit the need, any thoughts? Here's my config:
Soyo Dragon+
AMD 1800 XP
512MB Crucial 2100 DDR
60GB Western Digital
Audigy Sound Card
Radeon 8500
LG CD/DVD/CDRW

I've heard it said that the VIA PCI latency bug could effect video editing, but I don't personally know. Since you've already purchased the board, I'd say give it a shot. If you have problems, take it back and get a non-VIA mobo (AMD 761 or SiS 735/745). Good luck and please post your results!

Wondering if anyone has tried the NForce mobo with the BIOS update that allows all DIMM slots to be filled without dropping the memory bus speed. Does this new BIOS work as advertised?

Here, I've a A7M266 running a 1.2GHz Thunderbird (which is my games box), and there's also an ECS K7S5A running a 700MHz Duron.

Can't complain about either - no problems, just nice, fast booting boards.

(The difference in the early boot stage, between say the A7M266, and my BP6 (which I'm using now) isn't funny - between the initial BIOS post, and then the SCSI and (unused) HighPoint controller sign-ons...)
