I'm curious if anyone is seeing an issue with using the new Asus bios on this mainboard. It's pretty clear from the results of cachechk and Ace's linpack benchmark that the L2 cache is disabled, no matter what I say in the bios. I'm pretty sure it was working with the original 1.01a bios, but I didn't check for sure. Yes, I'm being lazy by not checking out the older bioses myself, but I want to gauge the conventional wisdom, first.

I'm using an Athlon XP at 1.53GHz (1800+).

Maybe it's the new SuperStability2, where they disable the L1 and L2 caches when they're not detected as being compatible with the board?

I have a question for you guys. How is that Asus board with the N-force chipset working out for you? I have an Athlon XP 1800 with a VIA KT266A based motherboard and I can not capture video properly due to the faulty VIA PCI bus implementation. I need advice on other chipsets thst support the Athlon XP processor. I have posted my problem in this same forum. You can look it up if you like. Thanks for your help!!!!

760MP works great. Beyond that I know nil of K7 DDR boards, firsthand.

Forge, as for superstability, the only type of which I'm aware is the reduction of the memory clock to 100MHz when 3 dimm slots are populated. I'm only populating the two "correct" ones.

As for your video capture issues, pinguinotuerto, I have been capturing 640x480 with an ATI Rage Fury VIVO AGP on a Tbird 1.53GHz, Abit KG7R (760 chipset) with one IBM 60GXP on the raid channel, at 30 fps with a dropped frame only every 5 minutes or so. I think I've heard that c't claims the VIA latency issue is also a problem with amd760 hybrids, but it is either (a) not a big enough problem when using AGP VIVO with a highpoint PCI IDE drive, or (b) not true. As for your KT266A, maybe you need an AGP video capture card.

Maybe people aren't taking me seriously about my original question, so let me show what I've found:

Take a look at the brownish curve labeled "A7N266-Ec (norm)", meaning it's the 1.01c bios with auto-normal memory timings. See, no L2 cache. At this point, the board is in use on somebody's desk, and I'd rather not experiment anymore. If someone uses this board and is still using the 1.01b or 1.01a bios, please let me know if the L2 is working. I'll be eternally grateful.
As an aside, I've included a few other graphs, such as my IBM Celeron laptop, an Asus A7M266 with the same processor, and the Abit BD7 P4 system that surprised me (grin).

Griffith,
Thanks for the info. I do have an AGP capture card (the all in wonder RAdeon 7500).
I'm not dropping frames at all. The image is just distorted when there is a lot of motion going on in a scene. Also the video files that I transfer to premiere 6 don't play back properly in premiere which I've read in several forums does have something to do with the VIA chipsets.

Wish I could help, but I bought the MSI nForce board.

I didn't like the feature set of the Asus model.
