Phenom TLB patch Disable tool

Postposted on Sun Mar 23, 2008 3:40 am

I know all you Gerbils could care less about AMD/Phenom right now...
But if you are running a Phenom processor, you should really check out this tool!

http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/sho ... p?t=180338

It disables the patch, reguardless of whether your Bios offers the option, or even if you install
Vista SP1 (which applies the fix for no good reason)...

This tool will let your Phenom run without a limiter (no TLB fix)... As long as you don't plan on running
VMWare, you should definetly check this out!

It's a very elegant piece of software... Thanks Sam2008...

Thanks for the link. My DFI lets me switch it off, but it's in the stupid memory part of the BIOS. Besides I have no PSU.

Just so ya know Gforce, my bios has the disable option to. It alway worked until I installed Vista SP1...

VISTA SP1 APPLIES THE TLB FIX REGUARDLESS OF BIOS SETTINGS!

The tool I linked is the only way I know of to get rid of it...
The best test for whether the patch is applied or not is WinRAR benchmark. If it's under 1000, you have the patch applied!

Thanks for the infomation Dave, I didn't know SP1 enables it, besides I can't use the computer, so SP1 is not installed on it yet. It prolly would have taken me a while to figure out what was wrong with it. I find that really stupid that it enables it, but thanks to you I'll have no worries.

Well, it is consistent with AMD's actions throughout this little adventure. The SPs roll up all the patches since the last SP (or the original release), and that includes driver-level patches from the hardware folks (which is how we got SATA support in XP, LBA support in Win2K, etc). I wouldn't be surprised if there was some back-and-forth between MS and AMD on this point, but ultimately it's AMD's call on what code goes into that piece. They seem to have softened their stance a bit recently, but that's way to late to get anything changed in something as big as a service pack.
