I've got a SlotA motherboard. ASUS K7M with a Athlon 850 processor someone threw me. It wasn't working and I want to know if the whole thing is toast or just the MB or processor. When I power it up, I get 4 short beeps. Anyone remember what this beep code means?

To properly answer this question, we need to know what kind of bios the board has. Since the Asus site was not immediately forthcomming about the info, I leave it to you to provide that info.

If it is an Award BIOS, then I couldn't find any documented beep code like you mentioned. Though I came across on reference that said it may be related to the keyboard interface???? Who knows.

Update. Apparently the board uses an AMI bios. According the the AMI docs, 4 beeps is "Timer not operational", and is pretty much fatal.

OK. Thanks SS. Oh well, one Athlon 850 bites the dust.

Well, its mobo bit the dust. The CPU should still be fine. eBay that puppy, or eBay for another SlotA mobo. That 850 still has some productive life left in it.
