I am getting a soyo dragon+ mobo.
I am looking to save a little money on memory and a cpu. Do I have to use DDR? What can i use?
Also how about a Duron 1.2 CPU? What is the difference between Athlon and duron? How much will I notice? I am not looking for really fast gaming.
Thanks for any help

The Soys Dragon+ requires DDR-RAM. The only t differences between the the current (1.0GHZ and up) Durons and the current (1500+ and up) Athlons are:
1) the Duron has a 100MHz/200MHz-DDR Front Side Bus (FSB), while the Athlon has 133/266-DDR FSB
2) the Duron has 64KB of L2 cache, plus its 128KB of L1 cahce, for a total of 192KB of cahce; while the Athlon has 256KB of L2 cache plus the 128KB L1 for a total of 384KB

Yeah your definatley looking at DDR. And I suggest you get Crucial brand. Its been the most reliable for me. As a matter of fact I've just installed a stick on my girlfriends computer. I've had bad experiences with PNY and have heard horror stories about Kingston on these forums. So you've been warned.

Also if your not looking for a major gaming machine then you'll probably be fine using the Duron.
