Intel Haswell and Broadwell

Wed Nov 28, 2012 7:01 pm

Hi

I just want to clarify something, how come Broadwell is the successor of Haswell if Haswell hasn't be released well also well Broadwell use the same Haswell socket LGA 1150?

Complex products like CPUs and GPUs have multi-year R&D time and Intel has been running parallel teams for successive releases. They have people working on current gen and next gen stuff at the same time. And of course Intel has to put a name on the roadmap so there you have it.

The latest "left field" rumour is that Broadwell may not even have a socket, at least for mainstream and low end models. They will be BGA and "soldered" to the motherboard. Time will tell if this rumour is true. Even if it is going to use a socket, it is always safe to assume that Intel will likely change the socket to avoid any disappointments.
The Model M is not for the faint of heart. You either like them or hate them.
