So, taking into account launch-day inflated prices for the supposedly overpriced Intel parts your relative percentage savings are about 10% of the overall system cost. Can the performance advantages of the 4670K and lower power requirements justify a 10% markup? I would say yes.

I might spend about $400 on my next system build, since I already have SSDs to throw in and it'll be an mATX box. The most I'd spend a new proc is likely 150. Intel chipsets (except with the EXTREMEly expensive motherboards with more crap you'll never use than you can shake a stick at) are crap on SATA6 ports too. I'll have to piecemeal it at first so the vidcard will come later, but the Intel GPU is completely useless to me once I have the new vidcard.

So yeah, it might be worth it to people who already like Intel and are invested in the high end market, but to me? Not even a little bit, so far. We'll see if things change down the road.

If I lived within a reasonable distance of a Microcenter then I would have been camped out front today :-) Ok, probably not camped out, but I do wish there was a Microcenter in my current neck of the woods. I remember going to one in Northern Virginia when I lived in that area and it was pretty awesome.

So it went from bad to bad. Alright then.

$350 is a steal. Back in 2009 the i7-975 was $999. Thank goodness Intel now slaps the big $$$ on 6 core parts.

I haven't built a PC since my Athlon X2 4200+. Got the i7 920 system from my dad...can't complain about free. Can complain about it being about as stable as a AMD K6! ;)

As I said, between the case, mobo, PSU, ram, and proc it'll probably run me about 400 and I'll probably get something out of having the two AMD GPUs...I don't actually know yet.

Speaking of disappointments, has anyone here seen the boxes for Haswell chips? I've seen them on Tigerdirect.com and quite frankly, I think it's a little freaky, with that human head. The read just screams "70's" or "80's", not sure which. I can't believe these are Intel boxes. Intel used to make really awesomely designed boxes. Haswell's box design borders on disturbing.

I'm out then as I'll stick with my Cyrix system which came with a really priddy box.

People say I don't get along with the AMD fans, but I think Ronch is one of the best posters on this site!

Intel marketing has always been a bit eccentric. This is the company that brought us Bunnypeople dolls and Blue Man Group ad spots, after all...

I honestly couldn't be any happier with Haswell. I spent about $1,800 today on a new computer and the IGPU is doing one heck of a job, especially at 2560x1400 resolutions. I can play most games (not at ultra crazy settings mind you), but they are playable.

Score! I made my order today and I'll be building it later this week into the weekend. In my case, two of the 512GB Samsung 840 Pros are the biggest single cost in the whole system.

Yep, the SSD and Raid-1 arrays took up a large portion of the price. Overall I'm pretty happy with Haswell and Intel did a phenomenal with the HD 4600.

A couple weeks ago, I picked up my i7 3770K and some memory there. On newegg and elsewhere, the 3770k was $350 ish, microcenter price $229 :D They also had a deal with the memory I picked up. 16GB of crucial PC-1866, normally $150, on sale for $129, and got $20 off for buying it with the processor. With tax I was out the door for less than it cost to get the proc from newegg without shipping. Absolutely worth going to a microcenter if you have one in your area.
