Which Processor should i choose ?

Postposted on Tue Nov 26, 2013 9:28 am

I am looking to upgrade my computers CPU and Motherboard but i do not know which CPU to go for, i play video games quite often and i also do allot of video editing for my job. The two CPU's that i have been looking at are: AMD FX8350 Black Edition 8 Core Processor 4.0/4.2GHz and the Intel Core i5 4670K Quad Core. I am more inclined to get the AMD as the cost if considerably less than the INTEL. Which one would be best for gaming on the latest game like BF4, please reasons and recommendations. Thanks

A nice 4770K or 4670K would suit you for some time.

Check out this review. The 3470 is pretty close to the 8350 in performance overall, significantly better for gaming metrics, and does so while drawing significantly less power, which means that it will run cooler (and probably last longer).

Unfortunately, Intel offers the best bang for your buck on most fronts, so go with Intel until AMD can actually make the CPU market competitive again (if that ever happens).

Unless the extra cost is going to break your budget, the 4670K or 4770K are better all-around CPUs. As superjawes points out, even the 3470 is quite competitive with the 8350 on general performance and price, and slightly better in games. Unless you're going to be running a lot of applications that can really take advantage of those 4 extra cores Intel is clearly a better choice here.

Don't forget to factor in the cost of a compatible motherboard with the features you want when comparing CPU prices, they really need to be considered together.

I'm not saying you should go for the FX-8350, but I'm very happy with mine.

I'm happy enough with my dual Xeon 5160's, the main thing I'd want in my machine is an SSD at this point. All the games I play I can handle just fine with my 2006 rig. It really depends on what you're doing with the machine and how much you care about playing games with a hair more detail VS having a truckload more money in the bank.

The FX-8350 is the CPU that i was going to go for as my budget isn't very high, i just didn't know if it would be-able to handle the possesses i wanted it to do. Thanks for every one advise it had helped me get one step closer to making a decision. Thanks again.

In terms of current software, it'll handle anything you throw at it. It is just that there are probably Intel CPUs which will handle it better and/or cheaper and/or with lower power consumption, depending on the workload. AMD CPUs still offer reasonable bang-for-the-buck, but gaming is not their forte and power consumption is a little higher.
