You already spent some $150 bucks for the motherboard, and it is sitting here doing
nothing. I can't say this is not a bigger waste than that $30 difference, unless your friend also just bought the thing and not use it after buying it.
This is why, you buy when you really need, not piecemeal over the course of a rather long span of time (more than a month, for instance). Idle hardware is worst. You could have saved the cash at the time, and let inflation devalue stuff further. Making things a more value buy the longer you wait. The only exception here is RAM, but then again, once you buy it, you start to lose warranty. So for people who bought RAM last year at low prices and yet to buy a system around the RAM, now they fire up a new system and turned out the RAM is bad, good luck with that.
