Maya tutorials

Thu Apr 14, 2005 10:14 am

Hello there!

So... I decided to try to learn Maya.. for like the 3rd time, but THIS time i'm really motivated :)

Anyone know of a good series of tutorials that takes you step by step into all the aspects of Maya? I did the tutorials that are included with Maya a while ago and they are pretty good, but I pretty much forgot everything. I just think it would be interesting to do a different series of exercices so I don't get bored building the same temple and hammer again.

Thanks!

I found this book very good, Maya 4 Fundamentals had a CD with tutorials on it. It's where I started when using the Personal Edition of Maya

There are a series of books by the same people with the word "Bible" in it, thick, comprehensive, take ya through the entire thing step by step and has a cd with tutorials on em. Run you about $50 u.s.

I have the javascript Bible, 3ds max bible, and director 7 + lingo bible currently sitting next to me. I recommend ya check out barnes and nobles to see what ya like, then go on amazon and get it used.

This probably is no help if you're just starting out, but the tutorial book that comes with a licensed version of Maya is quite good. You might poke around on ebay and see if one is available.

I've been using Maya for about 5 years (mostly for game development) and I still feel like I have only just scratched the surface. Compatriots of mine who are much more advanced feel the same way. Its less like a tool that you learn to use, and more like a lifelong quest one goes on. Think of mastering martial arts or mediation.
