AIW 9600 and SFF cases

Thu Oct 09, 2003 11:55 am

There's some concern over the remarks that a recent Firingsquad review make about the AIW 9600 not fitting into SFF cases.

I was devistated because thats the exact card that I've been waiting to purchase for my two PVR's (Shuttle SB51). I just can't see buying a couple of AIW 9800's for those boxes as they're sure to see little to no gaming, that's what my main boxes are for.

I did a little digging over at SFFTech and the consensus seems to be that it will fit as long as you take your time to work the mounting bracket into place or even trimming some of the tab off the bottom.

Here's the thread.

Yes, it looks as if you will have to either use a dremel or a nibbler to cut the bottom of the back plate off in order to make room for the top coaxial connector. In the arena of normal cases, this isn't an issue. I believe this is just with the 9600pro AIW and not the 9500Pro AIW, 9700/9800Pro AIW.

Wierd that this wasn't discovered by Shuttle (or anyone else) sooner. I think I'd make the mod to fix rather than ditch the SFF box(s). Its worth the small effort to do so.

I saw this stuff float around the SFF forums months ago, but no one had a solution. Thanks, I know what is going in my next Shuttle
