Used Sff

I'm thinking of ordering a referbished sff from newegg. Partly to Save a little money, Mostly because they don't have the SK83 new. Is it pretty safe or am I likely to get a lemon toster? Anyone have experience with referbished stuff?

I took a chance and bought a refurb shuttle SK83G last month. It looked great - like new - except the power supply was bad. I took too long to return it and now I am looking for a replacement power supply.

Newegg is great, I just didn't realize refurb parts must be returned in 15 days rather than 30. It would have been a great bargain if the PS wasn't a POS.

I think zipzoomfly.com had that model recently - new not refurb.

Yeah, I saw it there too. Problem is the price. 30 more than Newegg, 50 more than newegg a few months ago. Figured I could get a steal with it used. Good luck finding a ps. When you got it did they give you the box/cd/cords and stuff or was it just the cube?

Mine showed up with everything - manuals, screws, cables, CD. I don't know if everyone's refurb cube comes with all that but mine did.

As an update, I talked to a guy named Sonic at Shuttle USA and he sold me a power supply for $45 plus shipping. So I paid about $175 for the cube plus $45 for power supply plus shipping for the whole thing. Not terrible after all.

I got the number from the us.shuttle.com website - order by fax form. It has the sales phone number.

Shuttle did tell me that they do not warranty systems sold as refurb. For those, you must rely on what Newegg provides. Newegg would have accepted the return and refunded the money if I'd sent it back in time.

In the end, I'm pretty pleased with the result. I'm building and giving the system to my wife. Her computer is a 5 year old Duron 650Mhz running Win 98 that crashes a few times a day. She deserves something better.

I've owned 4 Shuttles (will be five when my SN95G5 gets here tomorrow!) and I always spent the extra cash to buy a new one. Wirh refurbs, you newer know what the previous owner did to it.
