Audigy vs Audigy 2

Mon Sep 01, 2003 11:18 pm

What's the difference between the two.. I'm building a friend a PC, and have a Audigy 2 in it.. and it's sweet.. but i see the Audigy 1 at newegg.com for $57, and thinking of getting one, Audigy 1 that is.. I just use Headphones.. but it sounds much better then the Intergrated Sound I have in my ECS K7S5a motherboard. Is the Audigy 1 good.. or should i pay more for the Audigy 2? thank you

Even a SB Live (which are very cheap these days) will sound better than most integrated audio.

Turtle Beach Santa Cruz is very nice (and cheaper than Audigy 2).
Nostalgia isn't what it used to be.

Audigy 2 has true 24 bit sound, and the 1 only has 16bit (though put through a 24 bit DAC, but that only gives you high-fidelity 16 bit and not true 24 bit).

On headphones (unless they're top-quality headphones) I doubt you'd notice much of a difference, though. On some Klipsch ProMedia or Logitech z680s, though, you'd probably notice it and want to have its children.
GO CARDINALS!

Unless you're gonna buy some top end speakers; just buy the SB Audigy card. I prefer my Audigy card over the onboard Nvidia Soundstorm on my A7N8X Deluxe. The Audigy card seemed a lot more clearer. It's a great sound card.

I think this thread would do well in the Sound forum.

Audigy over SoundStorm? Either your mobo is defective, your Audigy is way better than the 3 ro 4 I've used, or you have very atypical ears.

Of course, SoundStorm outputting digitally beats analog anything, every time. :)

forge is right, get yourself a nice soundstorm board if you have ddr ram (the k7s5a can take both ddr and sdr). my nf7-s sounds better than my game theater xp every did (but i will miss having 14 bajillion jacks ill never use) and seems to clip less when i crank it up

it also sounds better than my roomate's audigy and the drivers are much easier to use (though about getting an audigy 2 at the time, bought a mobo instead, happy i did too)
ASUS P7P55D-E, Core i7 860, EVGA GTX 570 SC, 4GiB DDR3 (OCZ I think), Razer Lycosa (letters rubbing off) and Lachesis, Benq G2400W, Steelseries Siberia G1 headphones (no speakers)

How about analog Audigy over analog Soundstorm as a comparison? Or should one just get a set of speakers with digital input?

soundstorm kills audigy, sorry for the late reply

digital out, better sound, better drivers, no HUGE pci card needed, dolby cert.
