Tsunami...any good?

Wed Oct 15, 2003 11:58 am

I am looking at getting a new sound card to upgrade from my SB Live. I found a good deal on a Tsunami 6.1, but havn't really heard anything about how good these cards really are.

Anybody have any experience with these, or shoud I run far away fro them?

Lovin' it lots Lickety!......................mmmmmmm XP goodness! :P

There isn't a store close to me that stocks Phillips cards, so that means an extra $10 or so for special order. Same goes for the Turtle Beach cards.

Just thought if anyone recommends this card I might give it a try. It's only $30, and for 6.1 I don't think that's all that bad.

Anyone even link me to a review of the board? (Yes I did try googling, but no reviews came up.)

was able to google some stuff on the 5.1 card, its a cmi8738 based card, in other words, its onboard sound that wastes a pci slot and has a very ugly box

get something with a dsp on it, ie herc cards (not muse, its cmi8738), soundstorm, audigy (live sucks, irq and cpu hog, audigy is better about this), they tend to sound better becuase they arent cheaply made and dont suck cpu as much
ASUS P7P55D-E, Core i7 860, EVGA GTX 570 SC, 4GiB DDR3 (OCZ I think), Razer Lycosa (letters rubbing off) and Lachesis, Benq G2400W, Steelseries Siberia G1 headphones (no speakers)

Yep, I'm actually agreeing with rika nearly 100% on this one. CMI8738 isn't total death, if it's just getting hooked to a 20$ 2.0 'PC super speaker' special, it'd be fine, but it comes up lacking as you get nicer and nicer speakers.

I have the Hercules Muse XL, and it's not a bad little card for 20$. That said, I get more use out of the headphones/mic it came with than the card itself.

Forge, missed you last night. Did you get my email regarding ET? You missed a good 4 1/2 hours of battles.
