How 'bout old threads get locked but the post button turns into a "continue discussion" button that starts a new thread with a header link to the previous thread? e.g. "Posted in reference to [url="old-topic-url"]this topic[/url]..."

How about people let the mods decide what's obnoxius necro worth locking and which is rules-compliant necro?
