headset..

Sat Jul 25, 2009 7:13 pm

Hi, I've been looking at headsets for awhile now. I would just like some advice. I'm currently stuck between steelseries 5h v2 usb or the plantronics gamecon 777. I was wondering which one was better or if anyone has any better suggestions.

How about the Sennheiser PC-151 or PC-161 headsets?

but I am not up to date with current models atm
oh, and do not buy USB headphones as you must always plug the headphones into the same USB port to use them

I don't think that's true for my logitech USB headsets.

Not true.
If you use a different port, Windows will just "re-find" them and install drivers.
Been using USB phones for a lot of years.

maybe they have better usb heaphones now but my statement is indeed correct, there are many brands of headphones where if u change the USB port u must completely reinstall the drivers, I believe turtle beach or medussa was like this
these headphones tend to have their own drivers and not rely on generic windows drivers
similarly some sound cards if u change the PCI slot you must also reinstall the drivers

I'll second that recommendation. I have a pair and the sound quality is great.

Surround sound headphones are largely hype.

I have an MS headset with on ear headphones and the mic controls on the cord. I've NEVER had to use any drivers, in XP, Vista, Win7, even OS X 10.4 and 10.5. Just plug it in and it works. I've used it in WoW, CoD4, and a few other games without issue. Works VERY well.
