I have Creative Inspire 5700 digital (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Creative-Labs-I ... B00005ULPT
). They are 5.1, with external decoder, and currently set up so that X-Fi encodes everything to DTS, passes through digital din, and then the decoder does it's stuff.
They sound alright, but maybe they're not very nice by today's standards, I have no idea.
All I know is that I love if speakers have their own decoder, removes the mess with the wires at the PC end. And pass-through just works.
