New Set of Headphones?

Postposted on Thu Dec 03, 2009 3:46 pm

Any suggestions for a good set of headphones. I can spend up too $80 but would prefer to spend a little less if possible. I have really loved my Koss TD61 but they are wearing out. I must have a over the head set that cups around your ears since I have bad cartilage in my ears from wrestling making any pressure on my ears uncomfortable within minutes. I like the specs on the Koss Pro4AAT Titanium Pro Headphones which amazon carries for $60 now. Any thoughts on these or other headphones?

I picked up a pair of these after reading a review on them posted on the 'bread many moons ago. They're really flashy, which can be good or bad depending on what kindof personality you have. For me, the headphones are a good icebreaker, and for the longest time I got SO many compliments. Getting to the real reason for owning them: the sound quality is good and they are pretty comfortable... however it sounds like your ear tissue is more sensitive than mine. Perhaps you should go with something REALLY comfy and soft, like some Bose headphones.

First, decide if you want this to be a fashion item. It's all the rage to wear huge headphones these days.

Second, make your way over to www.headphone.com and read the various reviews and purchase a pair. They have comprehensive and unbiased comments on a huge selection from audiophile levels headphones to the cheapest out there including the "fashion" headphones.

ssid, those headphones look exactly like my sony mdr-v700 dj cans but extreme levels of extra color
after having owned my 700's for nearly 4 years(mostly daily use) roughly i say they're nice but most people say the things break in about 3 months
closest suggestion to that type of pair id suggest would be sony mdr-7506 dj, they're older cans model wise but dont seem like they have that clamp action going on with the padding getting a bit tough on the ears since they should go all around them instead

I find my Sennheiser HD215 to be extremely comfortable even after prolonged use (usually more than 5 hours a day). And they SOUND excellent.

Amazon has them for $89.99.

I have owned Pro-4AA's and I can assure you that they are heavy and don't take long to cause head fatigue. With your condition you might not like them much. Also, whether you like the sound of sealed cans vs. open-ear is important too.

On the plus side they are solid and bulletproof, and have excellent sound isolation. They just really feel heavy after a while.
It's hilarious that the same people who laud the "benefits" of 16x9 aspect ratios also praise Chrome for "freeing up screen space."

They're only $80 on Amazon right now:

I've got those, and I think I paid ~ $115 for them close to 8 or 9 years ago. They still sound fantastic to this day. Love love love them.

I have a nice set of AKGs for the house, but I'm looking for some in-ear phones. Any suggestions? Buds are not an option, I can never get enough bass out of them.

These may be way out of your price range, but I just adore my Shure SE530s.

Even the e2c, or was it e3c that I had, were very good. The bass reproduction was quite good. Not boomy, but there and articulated.

I use Seinheisser HD555's, though if you want noise cancelling or a microphone or some such rubbish then these aren't for you.
