Auto-tagging mp3

Postposted on Wed Apr 30, 2014 3:21 pm

Hello,
I have been building rather large collection of music on my pc over the past couple of years. About 160 gb (almost all 320 mp3, v0 mp3, or 256 aac). I am pretty picky about the way the tags look on everything.

My question is this, is there any software that can auto-tag my music for just the category I select? For example if I want to go through and only add the "year" on my music and not "artist, publisher, lyrics, blah blah." I realize I could do this one by one, but that is more work than I care to do. Anyone know of anything like that?

Try Mp3Tag. It can do all sorts of stuff, and works well on huge music collections. Some functions can have a bit of a learning curve though.

Musicbrainz Picard might do what you want.

This worked awesome for me. Took a bit and not 100% perfect but did 90% or so of my stuff.
I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do, I do not do. But what I hate, I do.

I do it half-automatically with TagScanner. Unless you have no information whatsoever, it's very easy to fill albums/etc out for several files with one click.

Every auto-tagger that I've only ruined a portion of my music collection's tags even further. Amusingly enough, Picard was one of the worst, though it was quite a few years ago - it's probably improved a lot since then.
