Just bought my most expensive headphones ever!

I already have a Thermaltake Shock which is geared more towards gaming anyway, so I got this Audio Technica ATH-WS55. It's not exactly replacing my Aerial7 Matador, but it's better in more ways than one, albeit of course there's a price increase.

Trust me, these won't be your most expensive, now that you took the first step!

Just curious, are the linkages/headband on those metal or plastic?

They're metal.

Anyway, second day of use and it's really very good for me. There seems to be some complaints about being "too tight", but I'm guessing those posters have very big heads or something. The overall size is "just right" for me too. Hence why another review mentioning "looking like wearing triangle headphones" is weird to me.

No complaints on SQ thus far too, albeit most of my music in my phone are "just" 320kbps mp3's.

Except on internet forums.
A most unfortunate, Freudian, double entendre is that hotel named "Budget Inn."

Really think it's time for custom ear molds for the Shure SE500s.
What we have today is way too much pluribus and not enough unum.

Those look nice! I've heard a lot of good things about the Audio-Technica headphones; my father-in-law has some ATH-M50s which he bought on my recommendation (which I chose simply because they were popular on the internet) and he REALLY likes them. Still, I prefer mine: these are mine. I even like them better than my friend's Grado Reference series, and my brother's expensive Sennheisers. They just sound better! Plus, they come with three sizes of rubber pad thingy so I can actually fit them in my ears, which is super awesome. #tinypeopleproblems

Audio-Technica and Sennheiser are the best "bang for the buck" for headphones, IMO.

Audio-Technica is also the only name you need to know if you want to get decent sound from vinyl LPs without breaking the bank on your phono cartridge. (They tend to be a little on the delicate side though...)
Nostalgia isn't what it used to be.

I have a pair of $45 Sennheiser 310s and my original pair just broke about 2 weeks ago. I immediately bought a second pair. They sound fantastic in games and in music. They are very light and comfortable for extended gaming/listening/work sessions. My original complaint witht he first pair was the lack of a braided cord and that the cord was ridiculously long. The revision pair has no on-wire control for mic muting or sound control, but the wire is at least a bit shorter now. No regrets. When I have some money I intended to step it up to a nicer model, but until then for anyone on a budget these are unbelievably good.

I've been rocking my Senn 595's for close to 8 years now, and still love 'em. One of the best $180 I've ever spent, especially when you consider that I'm on my 4th videocard since then, and they'll easily make it to the 5th.
