Logitech Mouseware

Mon Oct 18, 2004 7:08 pm

I'd like to be able to use my buttons (MX700) but I'd like to not use that Mouseware crap. Hasn't anyone written a better version of it yet?

I doubt it'll work for the mx700 but you probably know more about it than I do... I hope it's not a memory hog though.

edit: Isn't that Mouseware 9.80? I've tried that before and didn't notice a thing that was different from 9.79. Hmm..

oh cool. sounds interesting. Be nice if they added some more game support or something.. I can't use the "cruise control" buttons in games.

A new version of SetPoint will be released shortly that will support the MX1000. I can say no more... :)

Well you just get this bad feeling when setting it up. It insists that the only function of the middle button is Autoscroll, and it also makes you use THEIR autoscroll, which is horrible. You could set it to middle button, but it doesn't like to work sometimes.

But I guess it could be worse.

A better question is what's right with it. It's absolutely horrible at consistency and application transparency.

I find it incosistant across some applications, but not that bad. Once you switch the function to Autoscroll + Use MS Office Compatible Only, I haven't found a single program that it doesn't work just like my old MS mouse did. Can you give some examples so I know just what you mean? I agree with APWNH that Logitech's special "Universal Scroll" is really bad. Really REALLY bad. It is incompatable with a bunch of programs, Firefox most importantly.

The program takes up 5 megs of system memory, which is a bit high but not terrible. I can't see that as a memory hog. For MS hardware they tend to hide it in with the windows stuff so it is hard to tell exactly how much memory it is using.

My big complaint it that it is not multi-monitor aware. If you use the "cruise" buttons while your mouse in on the secondary monitor, the little double arrow overlay appears over on the edge of the promary monitor. Same thing with the "quick switch" dialog box, but I never use that anyway. As I said in the Yet another mouse thread topic, I'd also like switchable profiles for games. But that's kind of a pie in the sky idea.

There is an option for "Middle button/Button 3" also, what does the MS Office compatible thing do that the normal middle mouse thing doesn't?

what's wrong with mouseware?

My parents got me the logitech wireless keyboard and mouse set for christmas, but i already had an intellimouse. I tried the logitech mouse anyway, and oh dear god. I couldnt scroll in web sites, documents anything, the buttons never kept their settings upon reboot, and it was a pain in the ass to get rid of too.

I dont expect my mousing software to be grand, intellipoint isnt the shiznit, but at least it works.

Keyboards ok though.

It just needs some tweaking before mouseware will work. if you don't use the extra buttons you can just not install it at all, and the only button that doesn't work is the 'quick switch' one.
