Is 0 dB possible?!!?

Wed Dec 08, 2004 11:10 pm

Well, beyond using frictionless bearings and, oh, I don't know, a magical orb of silence, probably not.

Anyway, has anyone found a fanless PSU that's actually good? Cause all of the reviews I'm seen of what's around seem to be crap.

Also, do the fanless ones top out at 350 watts? Even though I know it's probably ridiculous, I think building a silent overclocked gaming rig using a zalman reserator silent water cooler would be so cool. 8)

I have read some pretty poor reviews of the Zalman reserator. Apparently it is on par with a stock heatsink. While this is great for noise reduction, I would expect more from any water cooled system, silent or not.

You can't expect a whole lot from a completely silent fanless system, it's for people who want silent...but probably not overclocked....and in the review here it was pretty good as far as cooling and sound levels

As to fanless supplies I think Thermaltake makes a 350 watt fanless, though even with that you still have to deal with drive noise

I recall reading of an Antec fanless PSU, it boasted extremely high efficiency and looked like it was the best fanless PSU that I had seen... not too sure where I saw the info, I'll see if I can dig it up

**Edit: found it, where else but silentpcreview :0~!

Antec and Thermaltake both make fanless 350W units:

As 350W PSUs go, they are very expensive ($150+).

I think this should be put in the general hardware forum, seeing as how there's no mention of AMD at all in this thread.

Case place seems like an option too.

I'll go with general though. Wh33.
