I'm having problems with my build, just like OP in this other thread
, but I can't decide whether the high pitch noise is coming from my Fortron Hexa 500W PSU
or MSI GTX460 Fan OC
. Please note that it's impossible for me to determine the direction and source of the noise, sometimes it sounds like it coming from the psu and sometimes like it's coming from my graphics card. Also, I've checked my speakers and disconnected them just to make sure...
The symptoms are as follows:
- Almost imperceptible high pitch noise when in idle. Disappears totally if I move the mouse or when changing desktop resolution. Note that the high pitch sound goes away just for a second, right when the screen goes dark, after that it's all back, no matter the screen resolution
- Sometimes a very silent crackle can be heard if the side panel mounted 80 mm Nexus RealSilent fan is connected directly to the PSU via molex
- Very loud, high pitch noise and crackle when starting up games, but only at startup intros (i.e. EA Games intro) and when pausing game and accessing in-game menus. The weird part is that this high pitch noise and crackle combo only happens in Kingdoms of Amalur - The Reckoning and Alan Wake. Other games like CoD series, BF series are not affected at all, but Syndicate and Mass Effect 3 are partially affected and only a mild, continuous crackle can be heard.
- The weirdest part of them all is that while playing games under full load or watching movies, both my PSU and GFX card don't make a noise (except for the fan noise)
PS: I bought both the PSU and th GFX last summer and they're still under warranty for the next 27 months
