Cheap Mouse

Wed Oct 31, 2012 5:07 pm

So my mouse is starting to fritz out on me, but I know nothing about mice. Any good recommendations for a cheap mouse? I do some strategy gaming, but nothing that requires a 'gaming' mouse. I just need a solid one for about as cheap as can be found. Thanks guys!

Go to newegg and look at the mouse section. You can sort on prices or reviews. Pick out one that looks to be the right price and gets good reviews (stick to 4 or 5 egg reviews.) I just ordered a new Microsoft Keyboard/Mouse combo to replace the cheap setup I have now since the mouse is going (missing some button presses) and some of the keys lettering has rubbed off (not that I look at the keys that often.) It was only $15 thanks to a $5 off coupon and free shipping. But I noticed lots of mice alone that were getting good reviews and would only set you back about $10 for the mouse and the shipping. I would probably stick to Microsoft or Logitech but take a look and decide for yourself.

You can audition mice in person at your local Buy More. You want one with 5+ buttons (so that you have forward and back in your browser and other applications) and a reasonably-high DPI rating.

How cheap is cheap? I am a big fan of Logitech's M-series optical wireless mice. Current favorite is the M325, which lists for $30 but can frequently be found on sale for around $20.

If that's not cheap enough, just stick with Logitech and move down the price scale until you find something you're willing to pay for. IMO Logitech makes the best general-use mice.

I suppose the DPI on the cheaper Logitechs may not be high enough for you, but that is an individual judgement call.

This week, Best Buy has it for $15.

The previous M305 might be found super-cheap if you look around. (got one for $9.50 + tax last week from a local OfficeMax on sale).

Yup, the M305 is decent too. The main differences are that the M325 has an upgraded scrollwheel, and a "unifying" receiver (if you have multiple Logitech devices with this feature you don't need to plug in a receiver for each one).

FWIW, it appears Sams Club is now carrying the M325 - price was $16.78 at my local club. Cardboard display had M305/M325/the larger M310 all for the same price.

Picked up a M325 for my desktop, after buying a M305 for my laptop a few weeks ago.
