Screen turns off every 2 seconds

Mon Feb 18, 2013 12:01 pm

I recently installed a Win7 64-bit on my machine on a clean HD. I had Vista before the upgrade but on a different HD. The Win7 was a clean install. Ever since the upgrade my monitor turns off every few seconds after a few hours of use. It basically goes into power save mode and when I move the mouse or click a key it turns back on. However, than it turns off every 2-3 seconds. The only solution is to restart my computer.

I have no idea what causes this problem. I updated all the drives. I set the power setting to never put the PC to sleep or turn off HD and the monitor to turn off only after 10 min of no activity. My system is a few years old and I wonder if this is a compatibility issue with Win7 64-bit.

These are my specs:

CPU - Intel Core 2 extreme X6800 @ 2.93Ghz
mobo - Asus P5W DH Deluxe
GPU - ATI HD4870X2
RAM - 8GB Corsair dominator
PSU - thermaltake 750W
monitor - 24" Dell 2407WFP
Use your password like your toothbrush, don't let anyone else use it and change it every six months.
