dead mobo?

Postposted on Tue Apr 02, 2013 9:27 am

Hi all,

I've been running an old 775 system with a q6600(stock) and 6GB DDR2 on an ASUS p5ql pro for about a year now mostly as a sever, but got home the other day to find it dead with no lights on (power, LAN & peripherals) and no display output but fans still running and HDDs still spinning. I swapped out all the RAM and graphics card, and the HHDs all work fine in my 1155 i5 system. I figured the Mobos probably dead as it is quite old and was pretty cheap but dont have a spare CPU to hand to make sure. Bit of a long shot but does anyone know of a way of finding out for sure before a buy another board? The PSU is a new BeQuiet! 400W and appears fine, but its hard to tell when I can't get the system to post at all. Also I have tried to hard reset the board by taking out the battery but no change.

Any help is much appreciated, Thanks.

Motherboard: Possibly. Power supply: Likely.
I actually keep a spare power supply around (and another at my folks' house), just in case.

Fair enough, I'll source out a spare from another machine and post back with results.

I've had a lot of motherboards die on me over time. I'm not surprised you suspect it. And it looks like you did a reasonable job trying to isolate it.
