I stumbled upon a nice wide screen display someone at work was about to throw out because they didn't understand how to use the menu screen to adjust colors. I'm going to set it up on my desk for duel displays. The only problem is a bunch of keyboards were stacked on top of it and it has a few scratches on the screen now. They aren't extremely deep but sort of annoying to see the lines on the screen. Any sort of tips to buffer them out? I gave it a good cleaning with a LCD cleaner solution and a micro fiber cloth but obviously that's not enough...I was just being hopeful!

Does this display have an antireflective coating? If so, cleaning it in any meaningful way is going to be a bit of a pickle.

Depending on the depth of the scratch, you might be able to gently buff it out with various abrasives. If it's very light, you could try some toothpaste (with whitening) and apply and buff it a bit. I'm talking out of my rear though, never tried it. Just seems like it could work.

It has an Anti-Glare coating It's an HP L1945w.

Remove the anti-glare coating. The coating most likely took the brunt of the scratches.

You could also try filling in the scratches with Vaseline/petroleum jelly. There are guides online and my friend has had great success with doing it on moderate scratches. It sounds like yours are fairly light, and it will be way less work then removing the anti-glare coating.

You can try a clear wax candle.. rub it over the scratch to fill then buff lightly. First try in an edge scratch to make sure the wax doesn't make things worse...

Also try lens scratch repair kits for eyeglasses and cameras...

This, as long as you don't mind it becoming a glaring mess whenever you have the lights on.

Buy a new anti-glare film then. (not sure if that's the right dimensions for your 16:10 aspect ratio, but you get my drift)

I've actually used the second method - rubbing alcohol - just be very careful. The idea behind this is that you're basically dissolving the anti-glare just enough so that it flows into the scratch. Keep the mixture weak, and work slow and light.

There are also scratch repair kits available that work essentially the same way, either by dissolving the anti-glare or filling the scratch. YMMV but frankly they're just more expensive variations of the same idea, in my opinion.

You might be able to sand it our with super fine sand paper. Grits of over 1200 should do nicely.

What about armor all like for your car dashboard. I never tried it on a monitor but on plastic car headlights/dashboards it conceals the scratches.

Talking out of my azz now too but you could try a small section.
