What header is this? [PIC]

Hello,

I'm having hard time identifying a certain header on one of my motherboards. The motherboard is from HP T5565 thin client and the header looks like this:
Image

And volatage values for the pins are as follows (same orientation as the picture):
3.3     0.05
 0       5
3.3     2.5
 0      2.5
1.5
 0      2.5
3.3     2.5

Any one saw one of those? :)

Thanks, iron

The wiki article suggests there should be 10 pins for HD Audio. Also, the mobo has the front audio panel hard-wired (the motherboard fits the case perfectly, all the front and back ports, panels, LEDs, buttons are on the board.)

I edited my post. Looks like it's a second serial port.

Hmm, it does, according to the wiki site. But DE-9 header has 10 pins and DB-25 has 26. But it does look like some RS232 connector.

Voltages are all wrong for an RS-232, if properly implemented.

by just brew it!
It does not appear to have the correct number of pins for any of the typical motherboard headers (USB, COM, LPT, TPM, FireWire, FP Audio, etc.)

It may be for a proprietary peripheral of some sort, or even for factory use during testing of the motherboard.

Edit: Another possibility is that it is an analog VGA connector.

I don't think that's it. The "CN5" connector in that manual has a different number of pins, and I don't see an adjacent CN6 in the photo in the first post.

I'm going with my "analog VGA" guess.

Header for a TPM module?

Edit

Just looked at the one on my board, its not it

Actually, it could be VGA. The system has two DVI outs by default, one DVI-I, one DVI-D. No VGA. Considering VGA standard will never die, it could be it, just hiding. :)

Analog VGA has 15 pins, but 5 are grounds, so the 13 pins on that header would theoretically be sufficient. According to your first post, 3 of the pins are sitting at ground potential, which would be consistent with them dropping 2 of the redundant grounds. Furthermore, one of the pins on an analog VGA connector is supposed to be connected to the +5V rail, and you've got one pin that is sitting at +5V.

I'd say we have some good (but not conclusive) evidence that points to it being an analog VGA connector.

Edit: Just out of curiosity, is the header physically near the DVI-I connector? That would be the logical place for it if it is an analog VGA header, since the DVI-I port also has VGA-compatible analog signals on it.

I'm thinking serial: http://www.mytinywiki.com/index.php?tit ... hin-Client

Assuming they are similar at all -- but the pinout looks the same. It's not RS232 but since it's labeled "eventual" perhaps it's some proprietary thing?

Well, it is. Its near the rear panel, right behind DVI and DB25. But it's also right next to VIA VT1211 chip, which is a legacy I/O controller. May be a coincidence, considering the two RS232 ports are right next to it, too.

The link was mentioned before. We don't know on what info the wiki maintainer based this claim. The header seems not to fit any RS232 outs.
