Seiki Digital SE39UY04 39-Inch 4K HDTV for Gaming

Postposted on Wed Dec 11, 2013 6:54 pm

Hi guys. This is now on Amazon Warehouse deals for only $450 or so. How will it be for gaming in FPS such as crysis 3... Infinite bf4 etc I know it is limited to 30hz @ native 4k resolution due to it's older hdmi but what if I ran it it at 2560 x 1440 ??? (I only have a gtx 760 anyway). Would the refresh rate allow a higher frame rate at that lower res?

Please share thoughts on using this as a gaming monitor..

My thoughts?

Don't. If you want a 1440p monitor, buy one. If you want a 4k monitor, wait. 60Hz is bad enough.

I think the panel can do 120hz at 1080p, but the firmware is limited to 60hz.

It might get updated to 120hz... and even seiki seem to give hope a HDMI2.0 upgrade could be possible.
But dont count on both.

Now, they most likely will have a HDMI2.0 model next year for <$800.
I'm waiting for that myself...

Does it even do full RGB color?

Its a middle of the road TN 120Hz panel that was cut to 4k instead of 1080p. It actually should be fully capable of doing 4k @ 120Hz, though I doubt the LCD driver chip will handle that without overclocking.

Ok this PLS Korean Monitor is only $300 with free 3 to 5 day shipping. It is a Samsung product...OR do you have a better suggestion?

Here's the "thing" I am a small computer re-seller and recently used a 27 in iMac with 2550 x 1440 and a radeon HD6800. I did not see "that much of an improvement" over my 1080p Dell IPS...(My desktop is running a GTX 760)...SO if I go to 1440p on a Korean Monitor will my eyes be dissapointed?

Those cheap Korean monitors often use the same panels that end up in Apple's displays; if the display on the iMac you worked with recently looked only marginally better to you than your current monitor, the cheapo Korean monitor wouldn't fare any better.

At the moment there's at least 3 different panels they are using and the PLS is not the one that Apple is using. If you are going to buy one at the moment, the Qnix is the better. You buy them from eBay (from the 4 very reliable sellers) and you'll get it in approximately 2 business days. You can buy an aftermarket warranty which actually works out quite nicely. I have 4 of these at the moment and they are great. The ppi is higher than most 1080p monitors that gamers are using, it's the equiv of a 20.25" monitor at 1080p. The quality of the display panel themselves is all pretty good. You can also attempt to run it at higher than 60Hz, some people get to 144Hz and a 120Hz is pretty common. I run mine at 96Hz since I think that is about perfect.
