Well..that's different!

Wed Apr 02, 2014 9:20 am

I was browsing the egg this morning when I stumbled across this Water Cooled RAM kit. I thought to myself, "well there's something you don't see every day." So I figured, why not start a thread where people can post on interesting/groundbreaking products. So, lets hear what the gerbils have found.

Here are a few to kick things off.
1) Water cooled RAM (mentioned above)
2) mITX GPU. (not the original, I know)
3) mobos with excessive power phases.
4) 5.25" cigarette lighter drive bay. (I'm not a smoker, but seeing one of those in someone's case would definitely warrant a compliment)
5) Fanless CPU heatsink (up to 95W CPUs)

Oi, that ciggy lighter is going to suck a good 12-15 amps off the +12V line. I hope your PSU has some headroom.
What we have today is way too much pluribus and not enough unum.

Watercooled RAM seems a bit... un-needed. It is most certainly going to be an e-peen item. The drive bay cig lighter has been around for a long time and I actually have a local who sends me his computer about every 6 months for a tune up with one in it. It's an interesting item for sure but the inside of his computer smells awful. His is actually an ashtray-lighter combo.

If you are going to do it...why not 8GB sticks?
going overboard should at least get you memory density.

I never said anything had to be practical. IMO, the only practical item on my original list is the mITX GPU. Also, doesn't have to be new (aka cig lighter) Just has to be interesting/different compared to "the norm"
