AMD HD 57XX & HD 58XX owners

Anyone else ordered one of the new ATI/AMD cards?
I'm curious how many have actually purchased considering the scarcity. I ordered a HD 5850 last night but not 100% sure I actually got it before it went out of stock again. Will find out tonight I guess if it hasn't shipped yet. :)

I bought my XFX 5850 on the release day from NewEgg and it was shipped the following day. $259 :) Runs fast and cool. Well, $266... they didn't give me free shipping on it.

Got my HD 5850 today. Havent had a chance to install any games yet because I'm still working on setting things up and installing more essential software.

did run the little Windows performance test though

Before: (with onboard HD 4200)
Code: Select all
Processor         6.5
Memory            5.9
Graphics          4.9
Gaming Graphics   5.5
Hard Drive        5.9

After:
Code: Select all
Processor         6.5
Memory            7.2
Graphics          7.0
Gaming Graphics   7.0
Hard Drive        5.9

Danny.e, your results are strange. Here is what I am getting with my NVIDIA GeForce GTS 250:

Code: Select all
Processor         7.3
Memory            7.3
Graphics          7.0
Gaming Graphics   7.0
Hard Drive        7.7

I would expect your numbers (particularly in graphics) to be higher than mine, but that is not the case. :/

You guys just have to be completely nuts to trust Windows' built-in benchmarking.
To err is human, but to really f### things up you need a computer

It gives some kind of indication anyways. Pretty much just another benchmark.. just more general in their case.

I was able to get an XFX Radeon HD 5870 off of Amazon, pre-ordered like a month in advance. AMAZING card. Benchmarks don't do it justice, I just played through Fallout 3 at 1920x1200 with maxed details and 4xSSAA. Crysis and Crysis Warhead will both run very playably in DX10 at 1920x1200 at maxed settings and 2xAA as well, switching to DX9 just lets you bump up the AA a step.

Actually when I had one 5870 I could max out Crysis 8xAA, Very High settings, @ 1920x1080 and get something like 30-40 fps the entire time.

Yes, but it's really not much use in this context when the gaming graphics score maxes out with just about any discrete graphics card... (no offence intended to the GTS 250 :) )

I snagged a sapphire 5850 from tiger direct for $264.99 about two weeks ago when my 8800gts 640MB bit the dust. I think there was one sapphire left and a few others that were like $10 - $15 more.

I picked up a Diamond 5850 1GB (310 on sale for 280) for my buddies i7 rig. Haven't had a chance to enjoy it yet because the mobo won't stop beeping. ZOMG update! So my buddy's motherboard is dead, but the upshot is that until we get the replacement, i get to use his 5850 AND monitor. So right now I'm rocking 2 23 inch monitors!

I bought a 4890 a few months ago FYI, but am thinking about selling it on ebay and grab a 5850 once they are readily available.

why would a GTS250 have a higher score than a HD 4890 though? unless of course, the benchmark favours nvidia hardware.

What, on the menu right?

First, framerates in Crysis tend to feel a lot smoother than they actually are; the game feels playable at 3840x1200 Very High, but it's actually topping out at low 20s.

Second, no disrespect, but my system is at least as fast as yours, and in DX10 that just isn't happening. Nor has it happened in any reviews I've seen, including TR's.

On the Crysis Benchmark those settings give me 32.86 fps average, 18.49 fps minimum and 37.82 fps maximum. During game-play it'll hit a little above 40 fps depending on the scenery around me (how far the field of view is usually effects it).

Also in-game FPS I'm not running off "feeling", I'm using r_displayinfo = 1 while checking it against fraps.

Don't know what you want me to tell you, that's just what I get (when not crossfired). Also, just because you brought it up, whats your system specs? Remember to account in my overclock aswell.
