Ok I'm thinking of building a new computer to replace my wifes, my question is how good is the ECS graphics chipset? I remember seeing some articles on it but never really read them. Is it better/comparable to a GeForceMX400?

Hi,

If you're talking talking about this card, it uses this chipset. Doesn't look like a stellar performer, but probably fine unless your wife is a hard-core 3D-gamer

I've never had much success with SiS graphics cards - mainly 6236 based cards. Fine for text, but not great image quality, poor X support and not great 3D. Personal opinion though....

We reviewed the SiS 315 here:

Not a bad part, but it's not a gaming marvel. A good, cheap, desktop card for basic apps though.

The SiS integrated GFX cards arent horrible, but if you are doing anything more than playing Quake1, dont touch it..

Does anyone have experience with the TV-out? Here is my concern...

I have a GeForce 256 DDR card that is hooked to my TV with the S-video adapter to composite. I get a really bad white wash going up the screen. I see that the ECS card has a composite out on the card, and I'm hoping that would remedy that situation. I have a feeling that the adapter is the problem--it is really cheap--because the cable I'm using is a good thick monster cable.

Hehe going from one really cheap card to another really cheap card might not be the best of solutions.

True, but this in theory this isn't a cheap card. It is a Hercules GeForce DDR, which was a pretty good card--when it came out.

I've hooked a BookPC with composite out to the TV, and the wash is barely noticable.
