Is this card all its cracked up to be...for the price of $235 ..which isn't all that bad considering the 4600s are all over $350

:-? I like the design, but unfortunately no. The Leadtechs certainly are not bad, but are they worth paying extra for? Read on.

:( The 2 fans make a lot more noise and the huge oversized HS is overkill and unnecessary. It all adds to a very hefty weight. Some people have tried to disconnect 1 of the fans to stop the noise and ended up frying the board. Leadtech have also been known to ship old drivers (even on the web), but then which companies don't now-a-days?

:) The best additional cooling to enhance o/c are HS on the RAM chips and fast rated memory. Anything above or beyond this has seemed almost completely futile from the many reviews I've read. Here's one:

Thanks for that, Im going to go w/ the MSI card, it costs a little bit less preforms a tab bit better than the winforce card, and comes w/ a WAY better software package.

Don't overlook Abit or Gainward. They both have attractive packages for the money.
Resistance is futile.

8) All manufacturer's cards based upon the same chipset only differ in performance by 0.5% (half of 1%) which is within the normal benchmark deviation anyway. I would let price, features and the software bundles be the deciding factors, in that order.

:-? Even when taking o/c in to account, there is only a 3% difference between the best and worst, which again I would put down to the natural variance of the manufacturing process. Extreme or original designs and cooling solutions don't really seem to play a part, they were only really worth it for the GF3TI200. A final note on the 'golden sample' or similar cards; you tend to find the next card up will perform better for near enough the same price, I'd go for a TI4600 over a TI4400 Golden Sample any day.

 As always, shop around and see what's available for what prices in your area.

The 4600s are like $100 more than the 4400s while the 4400s are only $2-50 more than the 4200s... I did look around a little bit and the MSI 4400 comes w/ by far the best software package I could find online for roughly $220

I've got the MSI 4400, which I picked up about 3 weeks ago. Its great so far. The software bundle is about the best that I've seen - NOLF is a great game if you don't have it already. Also has VIVO, which many other 4400s don't have.

The one possible bad point for this card is that the fan on the heatsink seems to have a higher RPM than most other Gf4 class cards. If you're a silent case person, this will be noticible. If you've got a delta on the cpu heatsink, it won't make a difference. :)

Excessorder; What kind of numbers do you see from a timedemo in Quake III Arena, and 3dMark 2001SE? Just curious, to see how my system competes with a system running a 4400.

Anyone else who has the 4400, can also add to this.......

Also, what are your other components.
Asus - P4B266 | 1.6GHz Pentium 4 'Super Willy' @ 2.0GHz (1.825V) | 256MB OCZ PC3000 DDR RAM @ 333MHz - CAS 2 | Hercules Game Theater XP | Gainward Geforce 4 Ti 4200 - Golden Sample (320/560) | 21" Nokia 445Xi | 50GB WD | 16x DVD | 20x CDRW

Hey Toyotamr2_86NA, that's a nice o/c on your Golden 4200.

What actual increase does that give you?

I have been researching Gainward's TI4200

http://www.gainward.com/us/products/gwd ... 0xp_gs.htm

It looks like a good deal of videocard for the money.
But... (and this kinda freaks me out) It's pink. Bright pink.

Although as DiMaestro told me, it's gonna be inside your case and no one can see it.

I'D know it was there. That's enough for me.

On the flip side:

It'd be an upgrade from a TNT2 32MB card. That TNT2 is my current bottleneck. Pink don't seem so bad right about now.

:o I'd have apink 4200 in plain view anyday if it replaced a TNT2, a fine card in its day, and not pink. But the 4200 will flyyyyyyy.

 What CPU have you got under the hood Kuhtarl?

Austin, I currently have a 1ghz Tbird, but am thinking about upgrading that as well. My current practice is to upgrade the weakest link. In this case the TNT2 (which of course I bragged about when I first got it because my friends only had 16 meg TNT's or 12 meg voodoo2's)

:D Athlon 1ghz is still a fine CPU, while it won't get the most out of the 4200, it will still get a huge increase over the TNT2, and as a wise man once said, crank up the AA & Anisotropic to soak up the additional GPU power.

 Also look below, that Athlon 1ghz should reach 1.33 even with an older mobo.
