I got my brother a Radeon 9000 Pro 64MB for his 1GHz Duron system for his birthday, and he says it runs great. He's no visuophile (??), but he games a lot. What else is in your system?

8500LE

Mon Nov 25, 2002 4:41 pm

the 9000 and 9000 pro are basically stripped down 8500's

http://www.anandtech.com/video/showdoc.html?i=1655&p=2

and the 8500le is a slightly lower clocked 8500 with only one ramdac

so as inexpensive as you can pick up 8500's right now
I'd go for the 8500le with 128mb

I'd go for a straight-out 8500 128MB, myself, but between those two, I'd go for the slightly more stripped 3D core and more updated 2D/dualhead of the 9000. It's really a matter of taste/price, as the 9000 runs neck-and-neck with the 8500LE in most things, ahead in a few, behind in a few. The 8500LE might not have the second RAMDAC for dualhead, it's a trade-off either way. Price will probably count for more than features, in this comparison.

Radeon 8500

I haven't found any 8500's with 128mb at a decent price yet.
I only paid $91.00 for my Sapphire 8500 with 64mb at newegg
275/275 and 2 ramdacs

I picked up a retail 8500LE with 128 megs for 99$ at compusa and it clocks over normal 8500 speeds. I don't run dual heads to dual ramdacs is useless to me

Well it seems that the 8500 comes out ahead of everything!

umm the rest of my system is

Abit KT74 mobo
256mb RAM(SDRAM)
1.3Ghz processor- only running at 1.2 at the moment

hmm and what about the GeForce3 Ti500 128mb??
