I want a fast graphics card that will run today’s games really fast. I don’t care about games like UT2 because I will need to replace my entire computer for that one.

The GF3 Ti200 and the GF2 Ti have been on my wish list, but the GF3 Ti200 was a bit too expensive and I didn’t know if the GF2 TI was worth upgrading to from a GF2 MX.

The GF4 MX440 is a lot cheaper than a GF3 Ti200 (50 %) and I think that it performs well for games now. Agree/disagree?

My PC is a 700MHz Athlon, 512 mb ram, GF2 MX and running Win XP.

the ti200 is $131 on pricewatch last time i checked that is great for that card and it whips the geforce4 mx line's butt...if 131 is to much try the Geforce 2 GTS for $49 at newegg.com i think it is a good card for almost all of todays games (but not the 2-3 that were made for the geforce 3 & 4  )

Thank you for your reply. I would prefer a new mobo and a GHz CPU but again price, its just too expensive. An XP CPU + ESC mobo cost more than a GF3 Ti200. My CPU is a Slot A type, if I could find a 1GHZ Slot A I would buy it.

I just a tech junkie with no money and in need of a fix

Dude, the Ti-200 costs 30 dollars more- and it mops the floor with the 440MX. Buy the Ti-200 and OC it to 200/460 at least, if not more than that. poop, that's a Geforce 3 right there baby.

You should also consider the Radeon 8500 LE. They are just a bit expensiver than the Ti200. But it will give you better graphic and better DVD playback~~!

My price point is 125$ and that is the GF4 MX or the GF2 Ti, the GF3 Ti200 is 190$ in Denmark.

wait a month or 2 and save up the extra cash for the geforce 3 ti200 the 4mx and the g2 ti are no better than the card u have now plus the card u have now is more than enough to play todays games...... (i have one)

If you aren't concerned with future games, I think an MX4** would be a decent card... A ti-200 may have a bit more life though...

All the subjective opinions I've heard about the MX440 are poor.

I suspect this is the chip that nVidia sell to Dell, HP and Compaq so that they can sell high-end PC's to the home market with a GeForce4 in them....

GF4 440MX=just fine for DX7 and older games.

GF4 440MX=will suck for DX8 and newer games.

It's a hopped up GF2 Ti.

Internally, the GeForce4 MX GPU is more closely related to GeForce2 MX than to GeForce2 GTS/Ti or to GeForce4 Ti. GeForce4 MX and GeForce2 MX have only 2 pipelines, while GeForce2 GTS/Ti, GeForce3 and GeForce4 Ti have 4 pipelines.

http://www.tech-report.com/etc/2002q1/g ... dex.x?pg=1

Performance-wise, GeForce4 MX 460 and MX 440 will perform at GF2 Ti or better levels primarily because of memory bandwidth and a higher GPU clock speed.

Memory Bandwidth:
Nearly all NVidia cards since the original GeForce (SDR) have been limited by the available memory bandwidth on the card.
GeForce2 GTS/Ti features a 128-bit DDR memory bus. GeForce2 MX/MX400 was neutered by having only 128-bit SDR or 64-bit DDR memory. The P.O.S. (IMO) GeForce2 MX200 was severely crippled with a 64-bit SDR memory bus. The new GeForce4 MX 420 will have 128-bit SDR memory similar to the GeForce2 MX400, but the GeForce4 MX440 and GeForce4 MX460 will have 128-bit DDR memory. This will allow the GPU cores to achieve more of their theoretical throughput than a GeForce2 MX ever could. With memory speeds as good as or better than a GeForce2 Ti and a more efficient (lightning) memory controller, the GeForce4 MX440 and MX460 will perform at GeForce2 Ti levels or better.

GeForce4 Ti is the true successor to GeForce3, with DirectX 8 shader support and 4 pipelines. Several game developers have written that GeForce4 MX is a product that should never have existed, since it is named confusingly and since it abandons the DirectX 8 shaders that NVidia pioneered with GeForce3. NVidia may have effectively crippled future game development by supporting only DirectX 7 features in the GeForce4 MX.

I have a 1000MHZ Athlon(AMD)
768MB RAM
and a Geforce4mx 440
running at core clock 315/500
factory default with 270/400
Overclocked to the limits. with good cooling
it out performes any Geforce3 except for the 500Ti and is par to par wiht it.
so it is a good buy if you know how to overclock. 5400 score in 3dmax2001 with a 1gig system which isnt even overclocked yet, wont be for long.

Did you mean 3dmark2001 or "3dmax2001"?

With out the pixel/vertex shaders there is no way it is able to do all the tests in 3dmark2001.

Bought it and like it. It is super fast for all my games and a BIG improvement over the GF2 MX.
