Hey everyone,
AMD is reportedly planning to axe Linux (and most likely, Windows, too) Catalyst driver support for pre-HD5000 series of graphics cards by mid-year, according to Phoronix: http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=article&item=amd_catalyst_legacy2&num=1
I generally trust Phoronix, but can anybody confirm this? Man, I can't believe these series of cards are already on their way to extended/legacy support. Must be getting old. Its been only roughly a year since I replaced the HD3870 card on my main rig. And I know a lot of folks still on HD48xx cards.
AMD's probably transitioning most of their Catalyst team over to optimizing and working on GCN drivers, while still providing limited driver support to VLIW designs like the HD5xxx and HD6xxx series.
