Can I use two different video cards on same PC ?

I have a Dell T – 7500 workstation which came with AMD FirePro 2260 Video Card.

I removed it & installed AMD FirePro 2460 Video card to run a total of 4 Monitors ( This Video Card has 4 Mini DP Port & comes with 4 Mini DP To DVI Converter Cables )

All monitors are identical.

Now one of those 4 Mini DP To DVI converter cable has failed & I am left with only three functioning monitors.
( I tested everything & narrowed it down to the converter to be the culprit )

I am thinking about plugging back the original FirePro 2260 video card which will run the 4th monitor till I get the replacement converter.

So my question is if those two different Video Cards will work together ? ( Yes, FirePro 2260 has DP to DVI Converter )

If yes, do I need to download two different drivers ?

From AMD’s site, it seems both use same drivers.

Many Thanks

They don't even have to be the same drivers - you can mix an Nvidia with an AMD.

The short answer is yes. The long answer includes that you need drivers for each card, some of which come in the same package depending on how old they are, and some drivers don't play well with each other. It may take some fiddling with, but yes there is a very high likelihood that it will work.

In the beginning of this year both had the same drivers.

But now I went back to AMD again & input each card specs & it gives two different versions, the later one for FirePro 2460 applies to Windows -8 as well as Win-7. ( I have win-7 ).

FirePro 2260 :

FirePro 2460 :

The question is, would it hurt if I installed both versions, old & the new or will new overide the old one or vice versa ?

Thanks

What are the exact names of the cards? I see a FirePro 2460, a FirePro 2270, and a FireMV 2260. Looking into the release notes for the 2460, I see no reference to the 2260, only the 2270 suggesting that they require different drivers. When I look at this for the 2260, I see that it supports both: http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/f ... ev=8.982.2. Now I am confused too.

If you have the hardware on-hand, best thing might be to just plug it all in and see what happens.
