HD 7850 allowing my comp to post super fast?

Postposted on Wed Jan 30, 2013 12:55 pm

I just replaced my GTX 460 with an XFX HD 7850, I have 2 comps in the room and was putting the 460 into the 2nd, while grabbing the screwdriver to lock down the 460 I figured while I'm down I may as well hit power and see if the new card works.

within seconds and I'm talking what seemed like less than 10 I hear the windows music so I pause and consider how quick that POST must have been, keeping it in mind I finish with the 2nd comp and see that the video driver has installed automatically in Win7 and that it wants a restart so this time I'm watching.

I've got an SSD in my box so it's post once past the bios screen is reasonably snappy but wow, WOW, I can't believe how fast the bios is going now.

so I'm guessing/asking did they switch the bios's on the new Nvidia and AMD cards this year?... just AMD?

because damn, this thing is posting like it was never shut down.... almost as fast, if not as fast as if it was coming out of sleep mode.

I don't remember the exact details -- you could probably google to find out more -- but there's a new type of specifically UEFI-compatible VGA BIOS that allows it to start up much faster, thus hastening the entire boot process. A lot of the newer GPUs are "UEFI Ready"; that's what this indicates. I can't remember what changed, but in any case, it's a VGABIOS UEFI optimization thing.

ahh, ok thanks I'll look into it, the difference is dramatic, didn't get it when the GTX 460 or the HD 6570 were installed but the HD 7xxx ... worth it's weight in gold.
