Oh, and if I remember right, I had some success plugging in the HDMI cable into the receiver a bit deeper/better. Almost like the bad contact messed up the digital signal integrity so much that the handshake had problems completing.

Thanks, I'll work on it more over the next couple weeks to isolate it. The annoying thing is the only flipping reason I use HDMI is because I want to put out 7.1 surround sound and AMD doesn't allow for you to put out audio separately from video. I know that NVidia I used to have would... Maybe my housemate will let me borrow his GPU for an experiment.
