310.90 Drivers for GTX 680 in Windows 8, Broken?

hmm...it's happened on two boxes now. Booting up to a blank screen with latest drivers in x64 win 8 pro.
Might be just a co.ink.a.dink but perhaps not.
Nvidia has the best drivers , at least that's what I thought.
Maybe after an ms update they break?
580 doesn't seem to have the same problem.
Anybody else having issues?

I had this same problem the first time I installed the OS on my work PC, using a GT420. I would suggest when you first install Windows 8 you:

1) Right click on "My Computer" and select the "Hardware tab". Select "Device Installing Settings" and choose "Never install driver software from Windows Update".
2) Get Driver Fusion, but don't run it yet.
3) Go to your "Device Manager" and under "Display adapters" right click on your GPU and select uninstall, tick the box "Delete the driver software for this device" if it shows.
4) Reboot into safe mode.
5) Run Driver Fusion and restart.
6) Install the latest Nvidia Driver.

Basically that's how to clean install Nvidia drivers.

It is ridiculous that it should be so complicated.

Look up the official Nvidia forums, you are not alone, other people are having same issue... Nvidia's drivers are usually good but mistakes do happen, especially with this new Fisher-Price OS

happened again after windows update
one was for "Framework 3.5"...?, I think.
gtx 560 ti 448, 580 are not adversely affected, so it's just the 680.
kinda stinks having a 500+USD part on downtime.
ok, MS-Nvidia get your "stuff" together
me thinks NVidia owns the blame game.

new Drivers are out.
From driver notes:

"1.Reboot in Safe Mode.
2.Uninstall the driver.
3.Disconnect from the internet and then restart the system.
4.In normal mode, install the new driver."

This is how to correct the problems associated with my experience.

Yeah, Driver Fusion, CC Cleaner, Driver Cleaner Pro etc aren't really needed anymore imo. I used to use things like that but got lazy or it didn't seem to matter, at most doing the steps oldDummy posted should be enough to clean up driver oddities unless things get REALLY crazy. i think even NV now says that installing right on top of old drivers is fine.

From the Driver notes it says that MS update overwrites the 310 drivers with 304(?) and thus the conflict/trouble.
Nvidia is posting it as "not my fault".......
Whatever, it's identified and corrected.
