radeon 8500dv problem

Before getting the 8500dv, i was using the rage fury pro 32mb card and things were fine. As soon as I put the 8500dv card and installed the drivers, the system started to lag like nuts. It would take 5 - 10min just to fire up icq, also other applications as well. Pretty soon when you try to end things with the task manager over and over again with no luck, it eventually freezes. At first I thought it was my motherboard or one of my drives/scsi controller that crapped out. I'd rather not think that. Anyhoo I took out the card, stuck in my rage fury card in and things seem to be ok now. I also realized that I had not patched my system up with the service pack so that might be it.

I'm not sure if any of you have had the same problem

Tyan Thunder MB
Dual Intel PIII 600 Slot 1
100 FSB / 512 cache processors
512 mb ram
C: 6.5 GB scsi 7200
d: 6.5 GB scsi 7200
e: 18 GB scsi 7200
g: 60 GB IDE ATA-100 7200
h: 60 GB IDE ATA-133 7200
(Used for post production video editing)

Make sure to completely clear out the old drivers before installing the 8500. That may or may not be the problem, but it's a recommendable practice anyways.
