2nd hand GTX690

Tue Oct 22, 2013 8:21 pm

Just bought a used GTX690.
Didn't get it yet.
It was used for about 6 months with 1 month steady in a data farm.
was in a semi-clean room but under heavy load for at least one month.
About 30+ of these were ganged up.
Anybody have info on this type usage?
Would it have an effect on longevity ....that type of thing.
TIA

As long as it stayed cool there should be no issues.
What we have today is way too much pluribus and not enough unum.

Yup- though I wouldn't consider it a great value unless you got it at a significant discount- 2GB of VRAM per GPU is going to go out of style very, very quickly.

Whereas it would keep my game library happy until the card itself died. Horses for courses, and not all courses are 2560x1440 with umpty-AA/AF.

With 2GB, you're not running AA on a modern game at ~4MP. You run out of RAM :).

Thanks for the quick response.

Paid 660 usd, under warranty for two years [EVGA]
used in a STP room so a pristine setting.
Still a lot of cabbage.
Thanks again.

That's a fair price- it's a lot of power in a very nice package, for sure!

Damn.
Card Arrived DOA.

Now the hard part:
EVGA has RMA'd the card.
Seller is offering a full refund.
What a PITA.

Geeze that sucks....I was kinda worried for you since it was a data farming card, they do not catch a break.

Yup, my bad.
Did the repair/replacement from EVGA.
Covered till end of 2015 so with any luck it will remain viable until then.
Would seem to be the ideal card for my mITX build.
Pricey, even used.
Must be blinded by the bling. :)

There isn't a better card for mITX/1080p right now :).

Got my EVGA replacement GTX 690. Looks like it's new....package and all.
Also got a step-up option within hmm...80 days to go now.
With the 780-Ti coming out in a few days...who knows?
EVGA went over and above, I'm impressed.

EDIT: Close, very close http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/NVIDIA/GeForce_GTX_780_Ti/27.html

Ha, got a problem but a good problem:

Do I exchange the GTX 690 for a 780 Ti ? It would cost less than $60 ....

The 780 Ti is "newer" technology, somewhat cooler and quieter.

Single chip so bypass SLI limitations, if any...

new games are included....

A bit slower at 2560 X 1440

Any thoughts ?

Seconded. At 1440p, that extra GB of VRAM will actually be helpful today, though the card will be fractionally slower when not VRAM limited.

Thanks for your prompt replies.

Guess I'm the only one who thought it was a tough choice. ;)

I'll honor your opinions;

I've initiated the step-up program, again.

Don't know the time frame, we shall see.

Thanks again.

EDIT: went from 250 in line initially to today [12-04-13] 219.... guess it will be awhile, no big deal.
EDIT2: down to 209 today 12-6-13....slow, but movement.
EDIT3: Now at 167 [12-17], the beat goes on.

Went to the EVGA web page and find my step-up has been disallowed.

No email, notification ...nothing.

Don't get me wrong: Thought it was a bonus that I qualified for the step=up program.

Being unceremoniously dropped with no notification is kind of a let-down.

The 690 is sweet runs great and does it all at 2560 X 1440.

No complaints on that front.

Just feel a little bad about it.

IIRC the terms of the step-up program require you to be the original owner.

An e-mail would have been nice. I suppose you could give them the benefit of the doubt and assume a spam filter ate it.

So now when are you going to do some folding with it and report back with your PPD?
