Windows 8.1 network gadget/meter

Thu Feb 19, 2015 9:12 am

Does anyone know of a simple program that is windows 8.1 compatible that keeps track of the bandwidth your PC consumes?

I used to use network meter gadget on W7, but not really compatible on win 8.1 unless do 10 other steps.

My buddy is in a fly-in fly-out camp (3 week rotations) and they have a personal key and bandwidth limit for personal use after work.

Thanks

edit found 2, are there any others, or better ones?

hmmm so 8.1 kind of sorta has something built into it already?

I use NetLimtier. I've used it for years. Currently you can get the full version for free as they have released it for testing purposes before finally releasing it as it's a major new version. When they do release, all non registered users' copies will revert to the free version. (Just monitoring)

I should also mention that Windows has for years counted packets. If you go to network sharing center, click status on the connection, you can see bytes sent and received since the interface we brought up for that connection.

and NetBalancer is another one like NetLimiter that I have used but I've only used it briefly.

Thanks.

almost forgot about the windows sent/received, but if you shut down, it wont keep track. Hence the third party option. He is on win 8.1 so might be able to keep track of usage that way.

I used DUmeter back in the dial-up days. I loved it. Don't know if they are still around.
EDIT: looks like they are. http://www.hageltech.com/dumeter/about 30 day free trial.

I realize this isn't a Win8 built in gadget/widget .. but I've used NetWorx before. Used to have it on all my web servers (from a curious perspective); until I switched everything over to Linux boxes.

It did work well, and being able to look at traffic charts/history is actually pretty beneficial when watching one's bandwidth usage.
Just my penny's worth.

I use gadget8 program. After you install that you can run any windows 7 gadget and i use network meter v9.6 from addgadgets.com. I have been using it for sometime now and works perfectly.

PS: seems adampk17 has said the samething. Sorry didnt read all the replies.

If it's a wireless connection you can right click on it in Windows => Show estimated data usage. It keeps a simple rolling 60-day window count from the network adapter's perspective of total data sent/received.

I like this little freeware utility:

http://www.itsamples.com/network-activi ... cator.html

It gives you an icon that shows network activity. (like there used to be in XP)

It will keep track of your usage per session but if you restart the app or your machine it starts over at zero.

This thread got me wondering... surely there are some routers with this built in?

My Netgear router keeps track of bandwidth on the WAN side and gives daily/weekly/monthly counts with a previous month history and will automatically warn and/or stop traffic at whatever monthly cap limits that you set.
It's been pretty helpful a number of times.

Yep, sounds like my Netgear WNDR3700v2. My parents WNDR3700 also has it (not sure what hardware version they have, might also be a v2).
