Avast - Win32:Kryptik-PFA False Positive

Wed May 06, 2015 5:53 pm

Just a heads up for anyone running Avast. It looks as though they have a bad update out to their virus definition that recognizes many different drivers and programs as "Kryptik-PFA"

AND just as I typed that, Avast said the definition just updated mid day. Perhaps they fixed their bug.... Will report back later if I notice any change.

Good old Avast. :P That program loved finding false positives in the Folding@home folders

I have problems with Avast running to 75% or even 99% CPU load whenever I'm opening a large compressed file or deleting something inside of it, and often times the SSD would be maxed out as well. Windows Explorer crashed on two occasions, and one of them was with a compressed folder of old documents and pictures.

Ive had luck with Avast, this is the second large scale false positive update I've seen however in about 4 years of using it.

Forgot to update my original post, they fixed the issue in about 4 hours with another update. They also only released that bad update less than 1 hour before pulling it.
