An Error has occured during the operation
An exception has occured

Now on the window for the error message there is a details button. Ths is the information listed

Now I don't know if any of that means anything at all. But this is going to develope into a serious problem if I cant get it fixed ( The problem being my computer will find itself testing it's flight distance out my window ) I have been told it may be as simple as I should upgrade to a later version of windows. ( Currently using win 98 Second Edition ) So anyone got any Ideas?
In a perfect world, I'd be you.

Look on the motherboard itself is one way. Before you open your case, make sure either the warranty is already expired if its brand name like dell etc, if you open your case made by some, you automatically void it.

Another way is to look on the vendors website to see what ya got.

Check and see if Sony has a patch for the software, and we can link you to hardware testing utils if needed.

Make sure your video card and sound card drivers are the latest as well. This included making sure DirectX is the latest as well.

Does any other software crash or lockup on your PC? Have you added RAM recently?

Sony did have an update, whcih was 41 megabytes. And on a computer as cool and fast as mine, that only took 4 HOURS TO DOWNLOAD. And when I went to the video capture function it worked for about ten secconds, i got the " This program has performed an illegall operation" error message, and this set of details

SBVIDCAP30 caused an invalid page fault in
module SDVC03.DRV at 0167:01cb2722.

And im still working on finding my motherboard, compaq's website and customer service isnt all that helpful, and it is an old computer.

Not to belittle the_silver_bullet24's post, but finding your mobo model will only really help us troubleshoot hardware issues, and if this error stems from hardware, it is most likely RAM. You can run a RAM test overnight using a Memtest86 bootable floppy, just to make sure your RAM is OK.

If nothing else is crashing, it is less likely that it is RAM, but for the sake of ruling things out, it'd be helpful.

Go to Start > Run > and type dxdiag. What version of DirectX are you running? How about your video and sound drivers, do you know how to tell version you are running? I've mentioned this before, but for a video editing program to crash, checking these basic things is an important step in troubleshooting.

And just to be sure, does this older PC meet the minimum requirements to run this software?

I am using directx8.1 i surpass the requirements for the program except i just meet the 128 mb ram. The only fishy thing I can tell about the requirements is this
OHCI-Compliany IEEE-1394 integrated port or capture card (For DV Capture and print to tape )
