Restore Windows install after hard drive breaks?

Postposted on Fri Mar 09, 2012 4:39 pm

Can you restore a Windows install for a PC using any sort of imaging software if the hard drive goes out?

I don't have the Windows disc and I need to put Windows back onto this PC(OEM License)

Can this be done, anyone? :D  :) 8) :P

thanks

Yeah you can except if the hdd in question has no power running to it and the controller hasn't blown out otherwise go buy win7 on disk and stay away from OEM,it never works no matter what money you save, you always end up with situations like this happening.

It's a Dell Laptop - that's what I mean by OEM License. It came preinstalled on the computer.

How would I go about making and restoring an image of the drive?

Thanks :D

Damn,on your previous post you said PC,i don't see how you can as you need your lap running windows to clone it out to another drive, that clone drive becomes your backup whenever your main goes down, sorry, if it's down and not booting then your only other option is a new hdd and win7 or macos cd.

Hopefully another person might be able to help who has had more experience with your problem.

Does this mean the hard drive is dying? If so, you are trying to image a dying drive? That does not sound so good. :-?
