Budget Tracking Software

I'm in charge of the IT budget where I work, and I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for budget tracking software. Kind of like project tracking software except for budgets.

Right now I'm using spreadsheets to keep track of expenses, each month is a worksheet and the worksheets are grouped per quarter by color, and that's getting cumbersome.

I'm not looking for anything complex. I need to get away from managing the spreadsheets rather then managing the budget. I'd like to be able to set up recurring expenses, monthly and annually, and keep a history of budget revisions. Kind of like a task list/calendar thing that deals with money.

The options I'm look at right now are as follows:
1) Create a database in Access or LibreOffice Base.
2) Install a web application on the IT webserver.
3) Write a web application.
4) Something else I haven't thought of. :)

What are your thoughts?

You *need* to check out Spiceworks - I use it for all of that and more.

I've heard of this Spiceworks software before. I've never paid it much attention. When they start throwing buzzwords around like "Social" when talking about IT systems and infrastructure I tend to quickly relegate them to the file labeled Amateurs.

What you are probably looking for is something along the lines of Quickbooks.

I'd also check out iOS and Android Apps, if you have one of those devices.
Some various nice budget apps out there, that may be something that fits the bill.

I checked this out yesterday. It looks pretty decent, and the price is right. I start a new job, where I'll maybe be using it, end of this month. I'll roll out a test setup on my home LAN in the meantime. Thanks for the heads up.

I do agree with Kenobi, though. All the "IT Social" I need is TR. Anything like that from SW I'll probably be ignoring.

Spiceworks is pretty awesome..

I implemented it 1year ago, insurance company offices all over the country, 400+ users. We use it for the helpdesk, license tracking and pc inventory, budgeting, track warranties, etc. etc. etc. You can map your entire network and monitor, it'll show problem nodes on the map. If you have a problem, they have free support. (there's a couple ads that run, but it's free)

In 13 years of IT I can easily say it's the best free product I've ever used. It has saved our company several salaries by reducing the need for bodies in our remote offices.
