Can't change password on Slashdot... why?

Postposted on Tue Aug 28, 2012 11:50 am

I read the recent Ars password article with interest. Today I went about changing most of the passwords for the sites I visit. Whilst my Slashdot password is very strong already I'd like to change it anyway. So I was very surprised when I discovered it's seemingly impossible to do this at Slashdot.

There is an old password/new password form at https://slashdot.org/prefs/passwd (getting there isn't exactly straightforward) but the 'Save' button doesn't work. I press and press and press some more but it does nothing.

Vanilla Chrome. (Also tried Safari and Firefox.)

What's going on here?

Why are you asking us instead of them?

Fair question. Mainly because I have a lot of faith in the troubleshooting knowhow of the gerbils. Perhaps someone on here has experienced similar issues.

Not sure how you got there, but I just clicked the dropdown button next to my screen name on the main page and selected Account. There's a Password link at the top of the window that comes up.

Seems to work fine for me (I just changed my password, and verified that the new one works).

Vanilla Chromium (basically Chrome minus the integrated PDF and Flash) here.

No clue. Have you tried clearing your cache and cookies? That's about all I can think of.

Will do.

Thanks for the effort.

OK, so I managed a hackish way to achieve what should have been a simple task. Namely, fill out the 'Forgotten Password' form and then reset the password using the code emailed to me.
